Apple Discount Tip: How To Save on Apple Products as a Student

  • A robo-advisor is a low-cost way to optimize your portfolio and automate investing.
  • Financial advisors offer several services, including budgeting, saving, investing, and tax strategies.
  • Using a robo-advisor while also working with a financial planner can be a good comprehensive financial strategy.

Between online classes, assignments, and web-based research, it’s nearly impossible to be in school without a computer.

But investing in a brand-new laptop or tablet comes with a huge price tag — and right when you’re starting to pay tuition and housing, too.

If the thought of all these concurrent costs freaks you out, I don’t blame you! Luckily for you, I’m a lawyer and I read the fine print so you don’t have to.

You can save on your laptop, tablet, or other tech for school with Apple’s education discount, which is available for students, parents of students, and educators.

  • Apple’s Education Store offers big discounts for MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and more.
  • The discount is available for students, parents of students, and educators.
  • Apple sometimes runs special promotions where you can get a gift card with your purchase.

How Apple’s Education Discount Works

Say you’re browsing computers and have decided that the best option for you will be an Apple product. You’ve narrowed it down to a MacBook Air or iPad Pro, but the price tag is a turn-off.

Instead of buying the new MacBook or iPad for the normal consumer price, navigate to Apple’s Education Store. You can find it at the bottom of any Apple page or by searching “Apple for Education.”

Once you’re within the Education Store, browse those prices again. You’ll see significant markdowns on products like MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and more.

For example, instead of paying over a thousand dollars for a new Mac, the Education Store price is dropped to under $900. An iPad is a hundred bucks cheaper, too.

And it doesn’t stop there! Education pricing includes discounts on Pro apps like Final Cut, Logic, and more.

During promotional periods (like right before school begins in the fall), you may receive a gift card when you purchase through the Education Store. In the past, for instance, when you buy a Mac or iPad you’ll receive a $150 gift card plus 20% off Apple Care.

Even services like Apple Music are cheaper for students — historically, you can get Apple Music and Apple TV for $5.99/month when you verify your student status.

FAQs

Who’s the Apple education discount for?

Apple’s education pricing is available to current and newly accepted university students and their parents, as well as teachers and staff working at any level. If you're a parent with multiple kids in college, you can receive educational pricing for each item you purchase.

Can I get the education discount in person at the Apple Store?

Yes! Mention to the salesperson helping you that you’re a student or educator, and you can get the Education Store price right then and there.

Is there any student ID or faculty verification when you buy through the Apple Education Store?

No. You are not required to submit educational identification unless you are setting up a student Apple Music account. When you sign up for the Apple Music student subscription, you have to verify your student status via your student email.

Which Apple products are included in educational pricing?

The Apple Education Store offers discounts on the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Mini, and accessories like the Apple Pencil Pro, Magic Keyboards, Studio Displays, and iPad Folios plus their associated AppleCare.

The student discount also allows you to get 10% off AppleCare for your Mac or iPad if you already have one.

The iPhone isn't included in educational discounts, but Apple already offers good deals on the newest models when you trade in an older iPhone.

I'm a graduate of Georgetown Law, where I founded the Georgetown Law Entrepreneurship Club, and the University of Notre Dame. I discovered my passion for personal finance after realizing I was drowning in over $200,000 of student debt and needed to take action-ultimately paying off my student loans in under 2 years. I then spent years as a corporate lawyer representing Fortune 500 companies, but I quit because I realized I wanted to have an impact; I wanted to help real people and teach them that you can create a financial future for yourself.
