How To Transfer Your Citi ThankYou® Points

  • Citi has 20 travel partners and one retail partner (Shop Your Way®).
  • The Strata Premier® and Strata Elite℠ have the highest transfer values.
  • You can get up to 2 cents per point with the right card and transfer timing.

There are numerous ways to cash in your hard-earned Citi ThankYou® Points. From discounted gift cards to charitable donations, cashback to hotel stays, there’s a lot to explore on ThankYou.com (Citi’s official rewards marketplace).

One of the more intriguing redemption options is to transfer points to another rewards program. If you have the right credit card(s), Citi will let you convert your ThankYou® Points into Air France-KLM miles, Wyndham Rewards points, and more.

In some cases, a well-timed transfer could help you get 1.2, 1.5, or even 2 cents per point in value out of your ThankYou® Points — meaning you could save hundreds on your next flight or hotel.

Which Citi Cards Can Transfer Points?

As of July 2025, there are four Citi credit cards that allow you to transfer points to all ThankYou® partners at full value:

  • Citi Strata Elite℠ Card
  • Citi Strata Premier® Card
  • Citi Prestige Card (discontinued)
  • AT&T Access More Card (discontinued)

Since the latter two were discontinued in 2021 and 2018, respectively, that leaves the Strata Elite and Strata Premier as the only Citi cards you can still get that grant access to the full suite of transfer partners.

The following Citi cards allow you to transfer points to all partners except for American Airlines, but it's usually at a lower ratio:

  • Citi Strata℠ Card
  • Citi Double Cash® Card
  • Citi Custom Cash® Card
  • AT&T Points Plus℠ Card from Citi
  • Citi ThankYou® Mastercard® (discontinued)
  • AT&T Universal Savings and Rewards (discontinued)
  • AT&T Universal Rewards (discontinued)
  • AT&T Access Card Cardmembers (discontinued)

How To Transfer Citi ThankYou® Points

Citi makes it pretty easy to transfer points to travel partners.

Here’s a quick summary of the key steps, with a few additional details below:

  1. Head to ThankYou.com and sign in using your Citi login credentials
  2. Go to Travel > Points Transfer and choose a transfer partner and transfer amount
  3. Enter your travel partner member number and submit
  4. Wait up to 14 days (though most are pretty instant)

1. Head to ThankYou.com

Your first step will be to head to ThankYou.com, Citi’s dedicated online marketplace for spending your points.

Boy, I can’t imagine what they paid for that URL.

ThankYou.com is pretty intuitive. If you’ve never been before, you just sign in (or, as Citi calls it, “Sign On”) using your regular Citi online banking credentials

You’re then taken to the main ThankYou dashboard, where you can see all of your redemption categories in the white banner and some recommendations below.

2. Choose a transfer partner and amount

To transfer points, we’ll head to Travel > Points Transfer.

This will bring you to the main Points Transfer dashboard, where you can see all of the current partners available to you, their transfer ratios, and any temporary promos for bonus points:

At the time of this writing, Citi and Wyndham Rewards were running a promo where Strata Premier cardholders could score a 25% bonus on all transfers.

Citi does a solid job of showing you exactly how many partner points you’ll generate based on the current transfer ratio. It’ll also show you the minimum transfer amount, which is 1,000 ThankYou® Points for most partners.

3. Enter your travel partner member number

Once you’ve chosen an amount, you’ll enter your membership number for the partner you’re trying to transfer points to. You can usually grab this from your account dashboard on the partner side.

To illustrate, here’s where you can find your JetBlue number from the Air France-KLM dashboard:

Once you plug in your membership number one time, you can check the box right below it to have Citi save it to your account.

Once you click “Continue” and “Submit,” you’re done! Your transfer is submitted.

Keep in mind that transfers are always one-way and can’t be undone, so it’s best to make sure you’re sure.

How long do Citi ThankYou® Point transfers take?

Citi claims that transfers can take anywhere from 24 hours to 14 days. When I transferred points to Turkish Air Miles&Smiles about a year back, it was basically instantaneous.

Your mileage may vary (pun intended), so it’s probably best to transfer sooner rather than later if you plan to use the points to book a flight ASAP.

When Should You Transfer Citi Points?

Broadly speaking, it’s worth transferring any type of credit card rewards to a travel partner if:

  1. The points are worth more after the transfer; and
  2. You already have something in mind to spend them on once transferred; and
  3. You don’t mind losing the option to redeem them for cash.

All three factors are pretty important because transfers are usually one-way, and once they’re in your travel account, they can’t be converted into cash.

Plus, many travel rewards points (e.g., SkyMiles, IHG One Rewards Points) have been slowly depreciating since the pandemic, whereas credit card points tend to hold their value.

Points transfer example

Here’s an example of a well-timed transfer to give you some idea:

Let’s say Anshu just scored a 60,000-point sign-up bonus on her Strata Premier, and now it’s time to book a flight to Paris to see her mom.

The first thing she does is check Kayak.com to see if any of Citi’s transfer partners have a good flight option from New York to London. She discovers that Air France-KLM has one for $600. Perfect.

From here, Anshu has a few options:

  1. Book through CitiTravel.com using her Strata Premier card and earn 10x points
  2. Book through CitiTravel.com using her 60,000 ThankYou® Points
  3. Transfer points to Air France-KLM, and then book directly

But how many Flying Blue Miles will it take to book direct?

To find out, Anshu heads to Air France-KLM’s website, locates her flight, and discovers it’ll only cost her 46,000 Miles to book direct. That’s a steal!

So she heads back to ThankYou.com, transfers the 46,000 points to her Air France-KLM account, and books the trip – saving 14,000 points or $140 in the process.

Now, you might be thinking that a well-timed transfer takes a lot of work. It does. But once you get good at it, checking all that stuff and timing a perfect transfer can take less than 10 minutes. Not bad for a $140 payout!

FAQs

When is it worth transferring Citi points?

It might be worth transferring Citi ThankYou® Points to a travel partner if it increases the value of your points, you already have something in mind to spend them on, and you don’t mind losing the option to redeem them for cash.

Can you combine Citi ThankYou® Points?

Yes. If you have multiple Citi credit card accounts that generate ThankYou® Points, you can combine your accounts by visiting ThankYou.com > Profile > My Citi Accounts > Manage My Account > Combine My Accounts.

Do Citi ThankYou® Points expire?

Unless otherwise specified in your ThankYou.com dashboard, Citi ThankYou® Points typically expire three years from the end of the year in which you earned them.

Is there a limit to how many Citi points I can transfer?

Yes. The total number of Citi ThankYou® Points you can send (or receive) in a calendar year is 100,000.

TL;DR: Transferring Citi ThankYou® Points

Transferring your Citi ThankYou® Points to one of Citi’s travel partners is an excellent way to stretch your point values past 1 cent each.

Unfortunately, Citi only allows one card (the Citi Strata Premier) to transfer points to all 20 partners, but at least it’s an excellent card.

Transferring points is easy — it’s the timing that can be tricky. But if you find a flight or hotel that’s way cheaper in points than it is in cash, a well-timed transfer can save you hundreds.
