Kate Underwood is a former high school English and French teacher who, in the midst of fifteen years in education, discovered an affinity for personal finance. That fascination paved the way for her to eventually combine her twin passions of writing and personal finance. She has been a full-time freelance finance writer since 2019 and written content for outlets including FinanceBuzz, ConsumerAffairs, Market Realist, and Business Insider. The goal of all of her personal finance writing has always been to demystify the many aspects of finance for all types of readers. Kate has covered topics from budgeting to student loans to retirement planning, although more recently her writing has focused largely on credit card rewards, travel, and finance for parents. A mom to two young boys, she and her husband both left their education careers to pursue online self-employment and spend more time together as a family.
